I’ve come to think of myself as a "layerist" as well as a "colorist". I like to use thick, substantial
applications of pigment laid on top of under-layers of color. Each layer shows beneath the one
above it and in turn can result in beautifully accidental combinations. I prefer to work "wet on wet".
By that I mean that I apply thick wet paint over thinner layers of wet paint and still thicker wet paint
on top of that. You have to have a clear idea of where you want to go and must apply pigment with a delicate touch, or you will end
up with a lot of pure mud.
